Szczepan Zenon Malczewski, A guy who violently raped a terrified young woman he knew in a pub toilet has been imprisoned for just two years and nine months.

Around 10:40 pm on Tuesday, 7 May, Szczepan Zenon Malczewski, 38, followed a woman in her early 20s into the restrooms at the town centre pub and wouldn’t let her go.

Though she begged him to stop, he pushed himself on her for around ten minutes.

Later on, Szczepan Zenon Malczewski from Eastfield was detained close by.

“CCTV footage unequivocally showed Szczepan Zenon Malczewski’s movements and behaviour in the build-up to the incident, along with his aggressive demeanour towards the victim when she was helped out of the toilets by concerned staff members,” Detective Constable Nick Burton said.

“She had gone through a terrible attack and collapsed soon after Malczewski stopped the torture.

“There was simply too much proof against him. In police interviews, he finally acknowledged that the victim had not given her permission at any point and that he felt guilty upon viewing the CCTV evidence of his hostile actions directed towards her following the attack.

Following earlier admission of performing the stranger rape and sexual assault by penetration, he was jailed at York Crown Court for two years and nine months today.

He was also indefinitely included on the Register of Sex Offenders.

UPDATE 25.10.24

A man who raped a young woman in a pub toilet in Scarborough has had his sentence more than doubled after police appealed to the Attorney General.

Szczepan Zenon Malczewski followed his victim into the toilet and attacked her on 7 May.

The woman, aged in her early 20s, had been drinking in the pub with her friends before they left to go home.

Szczepan Zenon Malczewski, 38, later admitted forcing himself on her for around 10 minutes.

On 2 August he was jailed for two years and eight months at York Crown Court for rape and sexual assault by penetration.

Det Con Nick Burton, of North Yorkshire Police, applied on behalf of the victim to have Malczewski’s sentence overturned for being unduly lenient.

The application was heard at the Court of Appeal, where three judges quashed the previous sentence and imposed a prison term of six years.

They judged that the original sentence had not fully taken into account the psychological harm caused to the victim, as well as her vulnerability when Szczepan Zenon Malczewski attacked her.

Speaking after the hearing in London, Det Con Burton said: “It is pleasing that we have been able to successfully appeal the original sentence which has almost doubled to six years’ imprisonment.

“This is only right given the horrendous nature of the attack carried out by Szczepan Zenon Malczewski on the young woman.

“Again, I hope this outcome provides some comfort and strength for the victim who has shown true bravery throughout this ordeal.”
