Robert Patterson assaulted his former partner, leaving her bloodied, bruised, and with a fractured arm after unlawfully entering her residence. The victim terminated their five-year relationship because of his violent and controlling conduct, and he had previously been incarcerated and issued a restraining order for attacking her.
In January, she was at her residence in Newcastle with her daughters, aged 5 and 21, when she was awakened by the sound of a bang. Newcastle Crown Court was informed that Robert Patterson had shattered a glass panel in the victim’s rear door to obtain access, prompting her to flee upstairs to contact the police.
The 33-year-old, without a permanent residence, confessed to grievous bodily harm, violating a restraining order, and assaulting the woman’s adult daughter, whom he shoved, resulting in her falling against a heater and acquiring a scratch on her back. Robert Patterson then acknowledged hindering law enforcement five days later.
Recorder Kama Melly QC jailed him for two years and said: “She describes you punching her to the head and face on a number of occasions, causing a black eye and swelling. You threw her around the room and bit her lip.”
