A police pursuit originating in Peacehaven concluded when a spike strip was used to halt a suspected stolen vehicle.
According to Sussex Police, the operator of the allegedly stolen vehicle—a yellow Ford Fiesta—accelerated against the designated flow of traffic in the one-way system in Newhaven while being chased by law enforcement personnel.
The Fiesta was stopped in Litlington, a small situated between Seaford and Alfriston.
The police stated: “Three individuals were apprehended on suspicion of aggravated vehicle theft from a location in Eastbourne.”
Officers identified a yellow Ford Fiesta in Peacehaven, however the driver subsequently evaded police apprehension in the early hours of Saturday, January 11.
The vehicle was operated recklessly at high velocity, proceeding in the incorrect direction on the one-way circular road in Newhaven.
Specialist police from the Roads Policing Unit utilised a spike strip to deflate the tires near Litlington, resulting in the vehicle halting shortly thereafter.
The occupants exited the vehicle, with one man apprehended by the automobile, another man detained near the A27, and a third man captured after being located in a garden by Police Dog Sonny, a three-year-old German Shepherd.
“Subsequent to the pursuit and investigation by Eastbourne CID, 19-year-old Reece Beresford, residing on St Mary’s Avenue, Hailsham, and 18-year-old Finlay Snow, who has no fixed address, were charged with aggravated vehicle taking, specifically for being transported in a vehicle that resulted in property damage.”
Finlay Snow was further charged with possession of a weapon.
Reece Beresford and Finlay Snow appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday, January 13) and were remanded in custody.
Reece Beresford is scheduled to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 3.
Finlay Snow is scheduled to next appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 20.
Sussex Police stated: “A 19-year-old male was apprehended on charges of dangerous driving, evading police, driving under the influence of drugs, unauthorised use of a vehicle, and operating a vehicle without insurance.”
“Reece Beresford has been released on bail, pending further investigation.”
