In June 2023, North Wales Police were notified of an indecent image uploaded to a social media network by Paul Roberts Bontnewydd Paedophile.

Following further enquiries, authorities apprehended 68-year-old Paul Roberts, a resident of the Bontnewydd region in Caernarfon.

Analysis of Paul Roberts’ digital devices disclosed the presence of about four hundred thousand indecent and extreme pornographic photos, a significant number of which depicted the sexual exploitation of children.

Paul Roberts faced multiple charges, including the creation of indecent images or pseudo-photographs of a child, and, in a first for North Wales Police, possession of a ‘paedophile manual.’

Paul Roberts entered a guilty plea to the charges, and today at Caernarfon Crown Court, he received the maximum sentence of 3 years and 6 months. He was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Following the sentencing, investigating officer PC Amit Patel of the Online Child Abuse Investigation Team (OCAIT) stated: “This case was especially disturbing, and the vast quantity of indecent images that Paul Roberts had accumulated was unfathomable.”

“Perpetrators of this crime often presume they will remain undetected; however, this case exemplifies our unwavering commitment to pursue anyone involved in such egregious conduct.”
