On Friday, December 6, 23-year-old Ozbeg Teymuroglu, who has no fixed residence, was sentenced after being unanimously convicted of rape after a trial at Southampton Crown Court that commenced on Monday, December 2, and completed on Thursday, December 4.

Over the course of the four-day trial, the jury learnt that the victim, a lady in her 40s, attended The Edge nightclub with companions on Wednesday, June 5, having arrived shortly after 10:30 PM. At a certain point, she became detached from her social circle, and CCTV footage captured her dancing alone prior to being approached by Ozbeg Teymuroglu, who arrived at the venue shortly after 01:00 AM.

The court was informed that the couple danced for a brief while before he proposed they exit the place together, to which the victim declined, stating her want to stay with her friends.

Subsequently, at approximately 04:25 AM, Ozbeg Teymuroglu is captured on venue CCTV taking the victim’s hand, having enticed her outside under the pretence of having observed her friends depart the nightclub and wishing to reunite her with them.

After leading her into East Park, where he claimed to have spotted the victims’ acquaintances, she promptly questioned this assertion, asserting that her friend would never traverse the park alone at night, and began to distance herself from Teymuroglu, heading back towards the nightclub. She was forcibly taken to a quiet part of the park and assaulted by Ozbeg Teymuroglu.

Subsequent to the incident, the victim utilised her ingenuity to fabricate a false pretext, claiming that someone had attempted to contact her mobile phone and wished to make a call; at this juncture, she seized the opportunity to flee from Ozbeg Teymuroglu and return to the venue, where she found her friend and reported the incident to the police.

The jury was informed that Ozbeg Teymuroglu was recognised via CCTV footage and the identifying documents he utilised to access the premises. He was apprehended two days after the assault in Milton Keynes and later charged with rape.

Ozbeg Teymuroglu was sentenced to six years and three months in prison at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, December 6. He was additionally mandated to register as a sex offender for an extended duration.
