Nigel McDermott, a man, was incarcerated for three years after travelling over 100 miles in an attempt to engage in sexual relations with someone he believed to be a juvenile girl.

Nigel McDermott, a builders merchant from Hawks Ridge, Harnham, Wiltshire, was apprehended at a parking lot at Tilgate Park in Crawley on February 12, where communication devices were confiscated.

Nigel McDermott had online contact and had attempted to meet someone he thought was a teenage girl.

The 53-year-old, Nigel McDermott, was sentenced at Hove Crown Court on July 14, having pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to facilitating a child sexual offence.

Nigel McDermott will be a registered sex offender and was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order severely restricting his access to children and computers, both to last until further court notice.

POLIT Investigator David Sharpe said, “This arrest followed a proactive, intelligence-led investigation, part of our continuing priority to protect children from sexual exploitation from those who seek to do them harm.”
