A man pulled a woman to the ground in a terrifying sexual assault as she walked her dog in York.

The woman was attacked by a man as she walked her dog along a footpath off Monkton Road, running along South Beck, at some time between 12am and 1.21am yesterday (Wednesday, January 8). The man, who is described as white and of a medium build, pushed her on to the ground on a grassy mound.

He then sexually attacked the young woman. North Yorkshire Police were called at 1.21am and an extensive search of the area has been carried out. Detectives say “detailed enquiries” in an effort to find the man are underway.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Anyone who believes they may know this man or have any information that could assist the investigation, please contact us without delay. We are also urging residents in the local area to check their CCTV and doorbell cameras for any footage of people walking about between midnight and 1.21am today.

“The victim is being supported by specially trained police officers while the investigation continues. Patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide community reassurance.”
