Mathew Pugh, a Paedophile from Rhondda has been incarcerated for the crimes of rape and possession of indecent photographs.
Mathew Pugh, aged 40, committed the act of sexual assault on a woman who was incapacitated and so unable to give consent in July of 2023.
The security personnel at a location close to the site of the rape incident promptly notified the police about their apprehensions regarding the vulnerable victim upon observing her on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system.
Officers promptly arrived and discovered the victim in a state of distress. Mathew Pugh, who was still present in the vicinity, was apprehended and subsequently charged with rape after an inquiry. The South Wales Police applied for remand, which the court approved.
While Mathew Pugh sexually assaulted his victim, he was out on bail for the possession of explicit pictures. In May 2023, someone acquainted with Pugh alerted the authorities after discovering explicit photographs on his phone while borrowing it for music playback.
Upon receiving the report, the officers promptly arrived, confiscated Mathew Pugh’s phone, and apprehended him after uncovering illicit material, specifically Category A photos. Mathew Pugh was accused and charged with the crime of rape while being held in custody.
Mathew Pugh first pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape in February of this year, but he was subsequently convicted guilty after a trial in July.
Mathew Pugh pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing indecent pictures.
Mathew Pugh attended Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, 6 September, to receive punishment for all his crimes. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison, with the possibility of an extended licence for up to six years.
The officer in the Case, Detective Constable Ashley Colston, said:
“Mathew Pugh’s victim was in no way able to consent to sexual intercourse that night he raped her. I commend the victim’s bravery throughout this process, which has been long and difficult. We will continue to ensure the victim gets the support she needs. Today, she got the justice she deserves and I do hope this helps her recover from what has been a traumatic period in her life and that news of this prosecution gives other victims the courage to come forward. Images found on Mathew Pugh’s phone confirm his sexual boundaries are a danger to society which is a safer place with him behind bars.”
