The Child Abuse Investigation Team conducted research that identified and convicted a violent sex offender, Keith Ruggles Stratford Paedophile, who is now serving 28 years in prison.
Previously from Stratford, 75-year-old Keith Ruggles showed up at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, 18 April, when he was sentenced by a judge calling him out to be a “dangerous” person.
Following a report of non-recent sexual assault against a child, Essex Police started looking at Keith Ruggles in June 2022. Ruggles was in jail at the time of the report, serving a 21-year term for a different sexual offences inquiry.
Launched within Essex Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team, PC Jane Grieve oversaw the enquiries.
After appearing in court in March 2023, Keith Ruggles entered a guilty plea against all counts. On Thursday, 18 April, he appeared in Basildon Crown Court, sentenced to 28 years to run consecutively with his prior term. The judge mandated he spend at least twenty years, so he won’t be qualified for parole until he’s ninety-six.
