A Deighton PAEDOPHILE John Arthur Fairburn has had his prison term extended to over 13 years following a woman’s disclosure after fifty years of quiet.
John Arthur Fairburn, aged 74, perpetrated abuse against her for several years, commencing when she was nine, as stated by prosecutor Nick Adlington at York Crown Court.
Several years after he ceased his abuse of her, he sexually raped two additional girls, commencing when they were seven years old. He was incarcerated for five and a half years for that abuse in November 2020.
The woman felt empowered to approach the authorities and disclose the actions of John Arthur Fairburn against her throughout her childhood only after she encountered reports of that case.
She expressed a desire to have voiced her thoughts throughout her youth in a personal statement. It could have preserved the lives of others.

She stated that the shame and humiliation inflicted by John Arthur Fairburn occasionally still overwhelms her.
He used my innocence and inexperience during a significant portion of my upbringing. She expressed her profound shame upon realising the gravity of what he had inflicted upon her.
As a young woman, she successfully consulted her GP and obtained counselling; nonetheless, she found it exceedingly challenging to discuss her experiences, leading her to terminate the counselling prematurely.
John Arthur Fairburn, once a farmer in Deighton south of York, admitted guilt to eight counts of indecently abusing the woman, commencing when she was under 13 and resuming after a two-year interval, when she was between 13 and 14.
Judge Sean Morris, the Recorder of York, stated: This was egregious misconduct. It must be addressed with appropriate punishment.
He sentenced John Arthur Fairburn to eight years in prison, to commence following the completion of the sentence imposed in November 2020 for the abuse of the two girls. On that occasion, he admitted guilt to ten counts of sexual assault and one count of enticing a minor to engage in sexual behaviour.
John Arthur Fairburn is currently serving a total sentence of 13.5 years and will face an additional year of parole upon release. He was indefinitely subjected to a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order prohibiting contact with the three victims, and he will be on the sex offender register for life.
