A church in East Yorkshire is conducting an investigation following reports that youngsters attending a primary school harvest festival service were exposed to explicit images displayed on screen.
During a singing session of harvest hymns at Hornsea United Reformed Church, the Year 2 kids encountered obscene visuals replacing the lyrics on the screen.
The church is conducting investigations into the event, while The Sun newspaper reports that Hornsea Community Primary School has issued an apology to parents, stating:
“As part of the singing, a church computer screen was used to share the song words.
“The church volunteers used their laptop to do this, and unfortunately for a few seconds, some inappropriate content was shown on the screen. Our staff immediately intervened and removed this from the screen.
“We are not sure if the children were aware of this and we have not spoken to them about it.”
The school says its head of safeguarding is following up the incident to ensure the church deals with it in an appropriate manner.
Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education at East Riding of Yorkshire Council confirmed they had been made aware of the incident in the church: “The school informed families the same day and will not be using the church until we can be reassured that this cannot happen again. The church are conducting their own enquiries into the incident.”
One of the church elders said: “There’s nothing to defend here. We will just let the process take its course.
“It’s in the hands of the professionals.”
