A man from North Wales, George Welsh, has received an eight-year prison sentence after being convicted of 14 child sexual crimes.
George Welsh, 81, of Ffynnongroyw, near Holywell, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 27 February, notwithstanding his denial of the charges.
Following a week-long trial, George Welsh was convicted of all 14 charges, including indecent assault on a male under 16 years and gross indecency on a male under 14 years.
George Welsh’s offences were perpetrated against a single youngster, whom he initially abused while residing in Birkenhead during the 1980s.
The victim implored him to cease, although George Welsh dismissed the plea with laughter and persisted in his misconduct for several years, taking the victim to his residence and subjecting him to sexual abuse.
Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said, “Merseyside Police have been able to prove Welsh’s sickening behaviour and he will now spend a significant amount of time in prison.
“George Welsh denied the offences, despite the clear evidence of his guilt. This led to a week-long trial forcing his victim and family to go through this added ordeal in order for them to get justice.
“This prosecution demonstrates Merseyside Police’s commitment to protecting children from sexual abuse and from those who seek to harm them.
