Although the jury was unable to decide on a separate accusation of rape, a 64-year-old man, Gary Hicks Luton Paedophile, has been found guilty of several charges of child sexual abuse dating back to the late 1980s.
Originally from Milford Haven but now living on Oregon Way in Luton, Gary Hicks was found guilty of five counts of child sexual assault crimes between 1987 and 1989.
Gary Hicks was found guilty of two charges of indecency with a child involving a nine to eleven-year-old female at the time.
The court listened to upsetting specifics of how Gary Hicks forced the minor child to engage in a sexual act upon him. He was also found guilty of three charges of indecent assault directed against the same girl.
Gary Hicks also had allegations about the mistreatment of a young child, between four and eight years old, at the time of the claimed crimes. Hicks told the lad to expose himself and pee into his mouth, the jury was informed.
Gary Hicks was cleared of one count of indecent assault against the youngster and one allegation of rape, nevertheless.
On a second charge of rape, the jury could not agree on a unanimous or majority verdict despite several days of deliberation.
Judge Huw Rees has given the Crown Prosecution Service time to decide if they should seek a retrial for the unresolved rape allegation. On August 23, Gary Hicks is expected to be back in court to find out whether he will be subjected to another trial.
Judge Rees praised the jury for their efforts throughout the trial before calling it quits.
“Your commitment and hard work throughout this process have been obvious; the court appreciates your diligence,” he remarked.
Gary Hicks was released on conditional bail after his conviction and instructed to register as a sex offender.
UPDATE 23.02.25
A convicted sex offender has been adjudicated guilty of raping a minor in the Milford Haven region during the late 1980s.
Gary Hicks, 64, of Oregon Way, Luton, previously of Milford Haven, was convicted at Swansea Crown Court following a retrial over historical sexual offences perpetrated between 1987 and 1989.
The jury was informed that Hicks assaulted his victim, who was no older than eleven at the time, and cautioned her against speaking out. Prosecutor Daniel Jones informed the court that the crime was revealed on October 13, 2022, when the adult victim reported the abuse to law enforcement.
Mr. Jones stated, “He informed her that she would not be believed and that she would have no friends.”
On March 6, 2023, Gary Hicks participated in voluntary police interviews and refuted all claims. After over two hours of deliberation, the jury rendered a guilty verdict.
The result ensued from a prior trial in which Gary Hicks was adjudicated guilty of sexually assaulting both the same victim and a male youngster at the identical timeframe. He was found guilty of two charges of child indecency and three charges of indecent assault. At that time, he was acquitted of one count of rape and one count of indecent assault, while the jury was unable to reach a verdict on an additional rape accusation, necessitating a retrial.
Defence lawyer Mark Kelly KC sought a pre-sentence report but conceded that an immediate custodial sentence was unavoidable.
“Any report would merely extend the length of the sentence, for which I am grateful,” he stated.
Recorder Paul Lewis KC approved the request and established a provisional sentencing date of March 28.
Gary Hicks, already included on the sex offenders’ register due to prior offences, was remanded in detention.
