Admitting five counts of indecent abuse against a minor girl between the ages of 13 and 16, a Former Warwickshire Police officer, David Surridge.

David Surridge, 70, carried out the assaults in the 1980s; the victim reported the wrongdoing in 2022 following viewing a TV show on grooming.

She informed police in an interview that although she had blamed herself for what had happened until then she had come to see she was a victim.

David Surridge appeared at Warwick Crown Court on August 12th following a Warwickshire Police investigation, where he admitted admission to the counts.

David Surridge met the girl when she moved to a house close to him in Warwick. Originally a special constable at the time of the offences, David Surridge later became a regular officer.

Buying her presents and booze, he started grooming her and would take her for days out.

This soon developed into sexual abuse, according to police.

Currently living in New Green Park, Coventry, David Surridge was released to show up for sentencing on September 27 at Warwick Crown Court.

Leading the inquiry, Det Con Heather Webb stated, “My sympathies are with the victim who has showed amazing fortitude in disclosing her ordeal after so much time has gone. She could find some solace in this guilty plea.

“Like many victims of grooming, she blamed herself for what transpired. To be clear, you are never to fault and there are people who will listen to you and provide help should you be a victim of sexual abuse.

“We started a comprehensive investigation and made sure the victim had support as soon as the offending was reported to us.”
