A West Knighton Paedophile, David Neil Cook, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after being convicted of historical child sexual offences.

David Neil Cook, 62, was found guilty of two counts of rape, one crime of indecent assault, and one case of child indecency after a trial at Winchester Crown Court.

The incidents occurred between April 1991 and April 1993 and involved a single female juvenile victim.

The victim initially reported the assaults to the police in 2019, leading to David Neil Cook’s arrest and subsequent charges.

David Neil Cook, residing on Glebe Way, West Knighton, entered a plea of not guilty during his appearance at Bournemouth Crown Court last year. His case was subsequently transferred to Winchester Crown Court, where a jury convicted him of four crimes in October.

This month, David Neil Cook reappeared before Winchester Crown Court for sentencing, where the judge imposed a total of 19 years’ jail.

The victim, characterised as exhibiting ‘immense courage’, informed the Echo that she reported to the police after enduring ‘years of anxiety’.

She stated, “I was too young to comprehend what was occurring and what he was compelling me to do.”

Notwithstanding the challenging circumstances, the victim expressed relief that the case was concluded and was satisfied with the punishment imposed on David Neil Cook.

She expressed that she does not wish for any abuse victims to experience shame regarding their circumstances or to conceal their trauma for extended periods.

She stated: “Individuals ought not to harbour secrets, they should not feel shame, and they will be trusted.”

Detective Constable Mandy Lawrence, of Dorset Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team, stated: “The victim exhibited remarkable bravery in reporting the incident to the police.”

“I am gratified that, subsequent to our investigation, David Neil Cook is now incarcerated for his reprehensible conduct.”

“We will diligently confront child sexual abuse by assisting victims, promoting reporting, and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable.”

“I hope this case inspires others to summon the courage to report any instances of sexual abuse, assured that they will receive support and that a comprehensive investigation will ensue.”
