A Metropolitan Police officer, Craig Carter, has been arraigned in court on charges of embezzling funds from a man who succumbed after falling in north London.

PC Craig Carter, 51, was presented at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges of misconduct in public service.

Clad in a blue suit and a patterned blue tie, he spoke solely to verify his name, age, and address.

Craig Carter is charged with the theft of an indeterminate sum of money from a man who perished on the street in Hornsey in September 2022.

Judge Louisa Cieciora stated that the case was too grave to be adjudicated in a magistrates’ court.

The issue was referred to Wood Green Crown Court, where PC Craig Carter is scheduled to appear on 26 July.

PC Craig Carter, assigned to the Metropolitan Police’s North Area Command Unit, which encompasses Enfield and Haringey, has been suspended from duty.

He was granted unconditional bail.
