A Paedophile from Newton Abbot, Andrew Maddick, purchased a train ticket with the intention of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl who was to travel to Devon, according to court proceedings. Andrew Maddick established an online friendship with someone he believed to be a young girl, claiming to be an artist employed by a clothes firm.
However, his true motives were revealed when the conversation went sexual, and he admitted having a series of disturbing sexual fantasies about her. He transmitted graphic photographs and videos of himself to the ‘female’, remarking that she resembled “a little hotty”.
He deliberated about transporting her to Devon, organised the conveyance, and purchased her undergarments. However, his depraved plan was doomed to fail as the girl was a mere decoy and did not exist.
Andrew Maddick appeared at Exeter Crown Court for sentencing after confessing to five crimes of attempting to communicate with and induce a child to engage in sexual activity. He was assigned unpaid labour and mandated to participate in a sex offender program.
Ms. Mary McCarthy, representing the prosecution, informed the court that Andrew Maddick, then 35 years old, initiated contact with the child on Kik from January to March 2020. He originally portrayed a character that was sincerely interested in her.
He exhibited his artwork to her and remarked that she would be attractive in certain garments. He subsequently claimed to possess a “naughty side” and transmitted explicit photographs of his genitalia along with films of himself. He also stated that they might consume cannabis together and engage in sexual activity.
Andrew Maddick proposed that the couple convene and expressed his “annoyance” upon the announcement of the lockdown, as he had purchased a train ticket for her. He was apprehended in May; however, the proceedings were postponed due to the pandemic.
Authorities discovered five bras he had purchased for the ‘female’ in his bedroom. During the inquiry for that incident, he returned to Kik and initiated a discussion with someone he believed to be a 12-year-old girl. He reiterated his claims of being an artist and sexualised the discourse, although his conduct did not escalate with the second decoy.
His internet history revealed searches for photos depicting the sexual abuse of 12-year-olds. Andrew Maddick, aged 39, residing on Fairfield Terrace, was evaluated by probation as a low risk for reoffending and a favourable candidate for rehabilitation.
The judge stated that he has demonstrated sincere regret, possesses no prior convictions, and that a community order would be the most effective means of safeguarding the public.
Judge Anna Richardson stated, “There is unequivocal evidence of your sexual interest in children.” She stated that the baseline sentence for an individual who perpetrated similar acts on a genuine kid would be five years of incarceration. However, Andrew Maddick’s risk could be mitigated within the community.
He received a three-year community order requiring 300 hours of unpaid labour and was mandated to complete the Horizon sex offender program. Andrew Maddick was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for a duration of five years.
