Tom Dewey paedophile child sex offender - Hackney

A former Hackney councillor, Tom Dewey Hampshire Paedophile, has managed to avoid imprisonment by confessing to the possession of obscene photos of minors.

Recorder Jonathan Ashley-Norman commended Tom Dewey for his significant efforts in addressing his criminal behaviour after his imprisonment.

Imposing a 12-month suspended sentence, he stated: “Your actions have caused severe harm to your own life and immediate family.”

The judge acknowledged the defendant’s early admission of guilt and recognised his efforts to address his issue of viewing inappropriate photos of minors.

In addition, he issued an order for the confiscation of the devices, instructed Tom Dewey to pay £500 in costs, and imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order on him, which will limit his interactions with youngsters.

Thomas Dewey, the elected Labour councillor for De Beauvoir ward, was apprehended by investigators from the National Crime Agency. They confiscated laptops and tablets from his residence on Hertford Road in Hackney shortly before the local elections in May of last year.

According to the Wood Green Crown Court, he had a significant issue with viewing inappropriate photographs of minors from the internet for his personal use.

Shortly after his arrest, he resigned as a councillor before attending his initial council meeting.

Party activists regarded him as “ambitious”. He held a position at Hackney Council for over two years, working as a support officer for the Mayor and Cabinet office, as well as for a consultancy providing advice on development.

Tom Dewey was branch secretary for the De Beauvoir ward for the Labour Party and dedicated several years to actively promoting the party’s interests in Hackney.

In the previous month, the individual, who is 36 years old, pleaded guilty to the offence of producing five very explicit photos of children (classified as category A), an additional charge of making 41 moderately explicit images (classified as category B), and also producing 203 less explicit images (classified as category C) of children. This occurred on April 29, 2022, in the Hackney area.

Images are ranked according to categories, with category A being the lowest grade.

Tom Dewey, currently residing in Hampshire, confessed to the offence of possessing 78 highly explicit pornographic photos involving minors on 29 April 2022. Additionally, he was found to have 1,523 banned images of children on or before 20 January 2022.

A significant proportion of them were cartoons or CGI graphics.

The maximum term for the most severe offence is five years, contingent upon the quantity of photos involved.

The court did not provide a detailed description of the photos. However, prosecutor Margia Mostafa emphasised that the Category A images include extremely grave content.

The initial penalty for the first offence is a two-year prison sentence. Still, due to Tom Dewey’s actions, including his prompt admission of guilt and expression of regret, the sentence was reduced to 12 months, which will be suspended for two years.

Tom Dewey was given a suspended sentence of six months for charge two, three months for charge three, six months for charge four, and six months for charge five. The sentences will be served concurrently and will remain suspended for two years.

In addition, Tom Dewey is required to complete 150 hours of community service and participate in a “rehabilitation activity” for 40 days.

The court was presented with photos captured between 14 January 2008 and 27 April 2022, only two days before his arrest at his residence in Hackney, when he was the only person there.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) confiscated two laptops, tablets, and a hard drive. Dewey was apprehended and given a formal warning at 7:03 am.

They had discovered four “CyberTipline” reports that contained a user ID linked to a Google Drive. Dewey had uploaded explicit photographs of minors to his account on that drive.

According to his lawyer, Rhiannon Sadler, Tom Dewey has reached a stage where there is a significant difficulty.

The speaker characterised the charges as serious, and a pre-sentence assessment indicated that he was determined to address his issue.

According to her, he received assistance from Safer Lives following his incarceration and successfully finished their program. Since then, he has regularly attended counselling sessions with a specialist every two weeks.

Tom Dewey has a clean criminal record and complies with law enforcement and probation authorities. Additionally, Recorder Jonathan Ashley-Norman presented affirming statements from relatives.

“This phase of his life has likely been the most challenging to cope with.” “Instead of trying to avoid it, he has confronted it directly,” stated Ms. Sadler.

“Regarding resolving his issue, he has taken the most proactive approach possible.” “He has assumed responsibility with his family, which would have been a challenging conversation. He also took responsibility with his employer and engaged in discussions with the Labour Party,” stated Ms Sadler.

Tom Dewey was elected as a Labour councillor for the first time in the council elections held in May 2022. However, shortly after taking office, Dewey resigned, which led to a by-election in July of the same year.

The Labour Party, which holds the majority of seats on the council, narrowly emerged victorious against the Green candidate in the by-election.

The charges have caused distress among Labour campaigners, who were uninformed of the arrest until this summer.
