An individual, Gavin O’Kane Omagh paedophile, who engages in the sexual exploitation of children, as revealed by the Sunday World, has been incarcerated once again after planning to travel to London to produce a pornographic film with a young teenager.
Gavin O’Kane, a morally corrupt individual with a history of criminal behaviour, has been apprehended once again. This time, he was found guilty of both disseminating repugnant photographs depicting child abuse and engaging in the transmission of very offensive messages.
Furthermore, he is also being charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis. He attributes his awful actions to his drug abuse.
The 33-year-old individual, Gavin O’Kane, residing on Market Street in Omagh, Co Tyrone, was denied bail despite his barrister’s argument that his client’s rehabilitation could be impeded if he were compelled to reside among individuals with a similar history of engaging in sexual offences against children.
In July 2020, Gavin O’Kane was revealed by the Sunday World for the first time. He was apprehended at Belfast International Airport while attempting to travel to London to meet a 13-year-old individual whom he believed to be a girl. He intended to record himself engaging in sexual activity with this individual.
Nevertheless, he was apprehended before embarking on the Luton-bound flight. It was subsequently revealed that he had been trapped in a PSNI sting operation, and the individual purportedly soliciting sexual services from a 13-year-old girl was, in reality, an undercover police officer.
When Sunday World approached him at his residence on Market Street in Omagh, we discovered that he lived near a primary school, only a few hundred yards away.
Currently, he has confessed to the PSNI regarding numerous new child sex charges, although he continues to reside at the identical residence.
During his trial in 2020, it was revealed in Dungannon Crown Court that he possessed more than 6,000 disgusting photographs depicting the abuse of minors. Some of these images and films fell into the most horrific category.
Sunday World confronted the individual involved to enquire about their rationale for engaging in the production of a pornographic film involving a minor, questioning the acceptability of such action.
The confident and sexually attractive individual, who was 30 years old at the time, arrived at his door, appearing untidy and shirtless. He stated that he had no comments to offer to Sunday World regarding his behaviour.
“I refuse to discuss that matter with you,” he retorted sharply.
Gavin O’Kane resides in the bustling town centre, surrounded by many establishments such as shops, pubs, and fast food restaurants. Additionally, he is near Omagh Primary School, a mere few hundred yards away.
This week, it was revealed that he has been imprisoned once again after being apprehended by undercover police investigators who were alarmed by his recent conduct, even though he is currently under a Probation Order. He had managed to evade imprisonment last year for possessing an extensive collection of indecent photos of children.
The individual is facing 45 accusations, which include 40 counts of possessing and distributing indecent photos, as well as one count of transmitting a highly offensive message of a lewd or obscene nature.
He is additionally charged with violating a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) by utilising a remote media storage device, as well as possessing significant amounts of cocaine and cannabis.
The alleged offences have occurred from July 24th to August 3rd.
During around four months, two undercover officers in England informed the police that O’Kane had been participating in explicit internet conversations about child abuse. A detective constable shared this information with the Dungannon Magistrates Court.
In July, he transmitted approximately 20 explicit photographs that he had stored in an iCloud account to them.
Upon receiving this information, the police searched Gavin O’Kane’s residence and confiscated his phone, as well as quantities of cannabis and cocaine.
The photographs are now uncategorised. However, the investigator stated that they could be classified as being in the more severe category of seriousness.
Gavin O’Kane was apprehended and openly confessed to the accusations throughout the interview.
The detective opposed granting bail, citing the individual’s 36 prior convictions and their current probation order for comparable offences. This is our third inquiry into the defendant’s conduct regarding child abuse photographs over five years, and he has once again confessed to obtaining such images in the past several months.
The defence counsel acknowledged that obtaining bail was challenging. However, they stated that their client adopted a direct and practical strategy by fully admitting their actions. This prevented the prosecution from conducting additional scientific and forensic examinations on the seized devices.
The identification of illicit substances is a decisive aspect that directly contributes to the occurrence of more substantial criminal behaviour.
The barrister further informed the court that his client’s condition may deteriorate if he were to be placed in the company of other individuals who engage in child sexual abuse similar to him.
“If he is detained in custody, he will be housed with individuals who may have committed similar types of offences, which could ultimately hinder his potential for rehabilitation,” he contended.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan denied bail based on the potential for repeat offences and non-compliance with conditions.
Gavin O’Kane will make another appearance via video-link at Omagh Magistrates Court in a fortnight.
In 2016, he initially came to the attention of the police when he began storing illicit videos and photographs on his PlayStation and laptop, evading detection.
O’Kane phoned an undercover police officer to indicate interest in photographs.
When asked about his preferred age group, Gavin O’Kane stated that he prefers children between the ages of five and twelve, although he dreams of working with children who are ten, eleven, or twelve years old.
Subsequently, he transmitted images to the officer that portrayed violent and sexual behaviours involving underage girls. The communication, which occurred on July 25, 2016, contained highly distressing and explicit recommendations of child abuse, too explicit and unsettling to be made public.
Although under investigation, Gavin O’Kane contacted a second undercover cop in April 2018. This officer pretended to live in England and have a young step-daughter.
Gavin O’Kane admitted to having a “sexual attraction to girls under the age of twelve” and was questioned about engaging in sexual activity with the imaginary child.
Subsequently, he made a reservation for a flight to Luton, expecting to be greeted by the officer, whom he now affectionately called “Good mate”.
However, Gavin O’Kane was apprehended at Belfast International Airport at 7 am on June 8th, 2018. The individual’s mobile device harboured many photographs, a significant portion of which fell within the highest classification.
