A woman was allegedly raped adjacent to a heavily trafficked main road during the early morning hours. Merseyside Police received a report at approximately 12:50 AM on Thursday, February 20, indicating that a woman had been assaulted at the intersection of Vauxhall Road and Leeds Street in Liverpool’s city centre.

The police have initiated an inquiry, and the woman is receiving assistance from specially trained personnel. A short cordon and a police vehicle were established this morning adjacent to the bushes and grassy area alongside Leeds Street.

Merseyside Police announced that CCTV, forensic, and witness investigations are underway. They are appealing for individuals who were near Leeds Street/Vauxhall Road between 12:15 AM and 12:45 AM on Thursday, February 20, to report any suspicious observations to the authorities promptly.

Detective Inspector Carla Cross stated: “We regard all reports of rape and sexual assault with utmost seriousness, recognising the enduring impact of such offences on victims. Our specialised Unity team will persist in offering dedicated support to the victim throughout the investigation.”

“Public information can significantly aid in collecting evidence that incarcerates dangerous offenders, and I urge anyone with relevant information to reach out.” Leeds Street is a bustling route, and it is possible that taxis or delivery cars in the vicinity at that time recorded extensive footage on their dashcams.

“We believe the woman conversed with a man near Leeds Street after the assault, and we request that he come forward, as he may provide additional assistance to our investigation.”
