A former Staffordshire police man, Ryan Clinton, has received the lightest “sentence” possible for attempting to initiate sexual communication with a minor. Ryan Clinton skipped out of the courthouse.

Ryan Clinton, 30, a former police constable from Tamworth, was sentenced yesterday, Thursday, December 5, at Stafford Crown Court. He admitted guilt to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor at Cannock Magistrates’ Court on 16 October.

He received a two-year community service order, comprising up to 40 community requirement days, six months of mental health treatment, and 100 hours of unpaid labour. He was registered on the Sex Offenders Register for a duration of five years and issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same period.

On December 4 and 5, 2023, Clinton, then a police officer, communicated with an individual impersonating a 13-year-old girl on a social networking platform.

On 5 December 2023, officers apprehended him and confiscated his mobile phone at his residence. He confessed to the wrongdoing during the questioning and subsequently resigned.

A silly boys’ misconduct hearing, held last Thursday (28 November 2024) and chaired by Chief Constable Chris Noble, found there was a case to answer for gross misconduct and that he would have been dismissed had he not resigned.

Clinton will be placed on the national College of Policing’s Barred List, preventing him from working within policing and other law enforcement bodies.

Deputy Chief Constable Jon Roy said: “Clinton’s actions were abhorrent and his behaviour is totally at odds with the oath that he took when he became a police officer and what the public rightly expect.

“Clinton’s offending was identified, investigated and acted upon quickly, leading to him pleading guilty at the first opportunity and his conviction at court.”
