Tyler Smith sexually assaulted a lady following a night out in the borough last year. In the early hours of July 16, 2023, three women were in Farnworth revelling during a night out.
They saw Tyler Smith at a pub, and after several hours, they collectively resolved to return to a house together.
Upon arrival, Tyler Smith commenced making unwelcome moves towards one of the women.
She instructed him not to touch her; however, he neither responded nor made any attempt to recognise her distress.
Shortly thereafter, the woman opted to depart and took a taxi home.
One of the women retired to a bedroom, while the third woman opted to return home.
She attempted to order a taxi when Tyler Smith confronted her in the kitchen and made an advance to kiss her.
As she tried to move away, he continued to grab her, saying he “knows that she wants him”.
She repeatedly told him to stop but he forced himself on her, against her will, and raped her.
Understandably frightened, she woke her friend up and they asked Tyler Smith to leave the house.
In retaliation, Tyler Smith proceeded to get “incredibly angry” with the women, all of which was captured on mobile phone footage.
Tyler Smith, 24, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and rape.
He appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday where he was sentenced to five years and five months in jail.
He will also be on the sex offenders register for life.
Detective Constable Jon Liversage from Bolton Criminal Investigation Department said: “We know that coming forward to report sexual offences can be difficult, but no one should ever feel alone in such circumstances, and we will do all we can to provide you with the necessary support and help get justice.
“Tyler Smith took it upon himself to sexually assault two women, despite them expressing that they did not consent.
“This comes as a reminder to everyone to respect personal boundaries and consent.
“We would ask that to anyone out there who has witnessed, been a victim of, or knows about a similar incident comes forwards and trusts that we will listen to you.
“Tyler Smith continued to deny his actions throughout his interviews, but thanks to the victims, they’ve been able to help support a successful prosecution and ensure Smith now faces time behind bars for his actions.
“It cannot be understated how brave and resilient the victims were throughout this investigation and I thank them for assisting us in bringing Tyler Smith to justice.
“Anyone that has been a victim of a sexual offence, is concerned for the safety of someone they know, or suspects someone to be engaging in this criminal activity, should come forward and speak to us.
“We have a team of dedicated officers and staff who will expertly and compassionately deal with your reports, and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”
